Went to the Ohio State Department of Motor Vehicles today. It is official. I am a citizen of Ohio. I couldn’t be happier. I have 3 job offers and a decision to make. LIFE IS GOOD! This will be the third state in which I will get a license to do hair. This time I am also going to take my managers exam so I may work my way up into the salon ownership side of this amazing industry. I look forward to studying for this and passing with flying colors.
Another blessing I have is to be by my parents side. I truly believe that in this time of confusion among the political and religious worlds; I have found my peace with my family. I dedicate my success to their love and support. Thank you Mom and Dad.

Well less than one month later and my wonderful family has brought me to North Olmsted, Ohio. It is a lovely town just off Lake Erie (which happens to be frozen now). I am waiting for my license to be transferred from Georgia and then I have to take the exam here in Cleveland. I probably will not hear anything for 4-6 weeks. Ugh! So I BLOG! I hope to be making a lot of changes on here since I am no longer working in the lovely Larkspur Salon in California. I am now able to discuss many of my passions on this blog without being attached to a salon and being held liable to the owners digressions on which content was allowed or not. Yeah! As a hairdresser I was immediately on the prowl for the local Maly’s for my beauty needs. It is less than 5 minutes from me, great! So far it has been 70 and sunny, rainy and cool, and now my car has 4 inches of snow on it! ADVENTURE! My dog Emmit is adapting nicely and is loving the attention from my family and friends here.

Today is a day of rest, but not in my mind. I am always thinking of ways to be creative at work or with my blog. I recently got in touch with a true friend that I started doing hair with 17 years ago in Atlanta, at Siggers Hairdressers.
We were discussing the fact that we never knew how remarkable blessed we were to be around the talented hairdressers and salon owners always entering our salon and inviting us to their homes. I am going to feature some of my inspirational workings on my 2010 TRENDS page. There you will see some work by the stylist and salon owners that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years. I hope you see something you like. Pictures are always a welcome tool in this industry. What’s red to you may be copper to me. The short hair you don’t like may rest just below your shoulders, not your ears. Consultations are my favorite, but do need a process. I like to ask lifestyle questions, and show you pictures of what I think you may be thinking about from your responses. I am currently working on my LOOK-BOOK. If you are the artistic or crafty type, you may have one of your own. Look-books are a phenomenal tool in my life’s work. I like to gather pictures together that make me go WOW! I organize them by texture, color, saturation and so on. Take some time to think about your personal style when going through the process of what to do next with your hair. What makes YOU exclaim…WOW…I LIKE THAT?!

The imagination was free today and boy was it fun. Inspiration came from beautiful people
…and beautiful wood…Clients that have come in to me 5 times or for the first time are always consulted. I love to use things available for our senses to use…to use as our MUSE! Thanks to my beautiful women and their beautiful minds and souls. It was a great day at Magnolia Avenue Salon…thanks for the referral Karen and Carol…Emily

Hello Beautiful!
Have you heard of “Dust It” by Osis+? It’s a mattifying powder. My mom brought it to me from her stylist in Houston. I use it at the root after setting my hair with velcro rollers. It works great! It’s like glue in powder form. You know what we Southern ladies say…the higher the hair, the closer to God! LOL!
Have a great week!
MJ
